Privacy Policy
Effective October 24, 2026. Short version: BrowserSearch doesn't collect, sell or share any data about you.
What BrowserSearch reads
When you open the search panel, BrowserSearch reads the titles and URLs of tabs in browsers that are already open, so it can search them. That list is kept in memory only and replaced on the next search.
For Recent tabs, while a supported browser is the app in front, BrowserSearch checks every couple of seconds which tab that browser is showing. It only does this for browsers you've already allowed, and only while Recent tabs is turned on.
What BrowserSearch stores
- Your settings, such as the search shortcut. Launch at login is managed by macOS.
- With Recent tabs on (the default): the title, URL, browser and time of the last 50 tabs you used. They are saved in BrowserSearch's preferences on your Mac so the list survives restarts.
- Hashtags, keywords and pins you add, with the title and address (or, for Firefox, the title) of each of those pages so they can be reopened. Remove them in Settings › Organize.
- When each page was last the tab in front, for the Stale view. Entries older than 90 days are dropped automatically, and nothing is recorded while Recent tabs is turned off.
Page text
- Only when you press ⌘F in the panel (and you've allowed it in your browser), BrowserSearch reads the visible text of your open pages to search it. The text is kept in memory while the panel is open and never written to disk or sent anywhere.
To remove them, click Clear Recent Tabs in Settings. To stop collecting them, turn off Remember recently used tabs. Turning a browser off in Settings › Browsers also stops tracking it.
Network access
None. BrowserSearch makes no network connections.
What BrowserSearch does not do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No analytics, tracking, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs.
- No page contents, cookies, passwords or your browser's own history are read. The Recent list only contains tabs seen while BrowserSearch was running.
- No keystroke logging. BrowserSearch is only told when your search shortcut is pressed.
