Mood Tracker privacy policy
Effective date: September 30, 2026
This policy describes Mood Tracker's journal app, optional features, support correspondence and these documentation pages. For privacy questions, contact gmb234789@gmail.com.
At a glance
- Your journal is stored on your device. Core journaling does not require a developer-managed account.
- Private iCloud sync, on-device AI reflections, reminders, app lock and voice recording are optional. They start off. Ask my journal, Siri journal access and cloud-assisted AI are disabled.
- The app has no advertising, tracking or third-party analytics SDK and does not sell journal data.
- Sharing and full backups can disclose sensitive information. Review what you share.
How the app handles your information
Mood Tracker uses your entries to save your journal, display your history, calculate descriptive charts and create reports you request. The app does not automatically send your journal to the developer. Optional sync stores it in your own private iCloud database; the app has no developer-operated journal server. On-device AI does not send your entries to a cloud AI provider.
Information can leave your device when you enable private iCloud sync, export or share a file, send a support email, or use Apple’s backup or diagnostic-sharing services. These are different flows, described below. The app does not collect your location, contacts, advertising identifier or biometric template.
Information in your journal
The app stores the information you choose to enter: moods and detailed feelings; dates, times and time zones; optional ratings such as wellbeing, stress, energy and sleep; activities and other factors; food and drink details; written notes, treatment changes and symptoms; and optional voice recordings. Record identifiers, edit timestamps and deletion markers support saving and synchronization.
Journal files are stored in the app's device storage using iOS file protection and atomic writes. Device backups follow your Apple settings. File protection does not make information inaccessible to someone who can unlock your device, or protect copies you export elsewhere. No storage method is guaranteed against every loss or unauthorized access.
Private iCloud synchronization
Private sync is off until you enable it. When enabled, the complete journal, including private written information and recordings, is uploaded to your Apple account's private CloudKit database. Other installations using the same account and container can merge or restore that journal. Network connectivity, account status and service availability affect synchronization.
Private sync does not share your journal with other people. Apple operates iCloud under its own privacy policy. Mood Tracker does not operate a separate journal-storage server. This policy does not promise end-to-end encryption for CloudKit data.
PDF reports and exported files
Reports are shared only as PDF files you explicitly export. Invitations, participant management, incoming shared reports and online report publishing are disabled. Private text is excluded unless you choose to include it; voice recordings are excluded.
PDF reports are generated on your device and shared only through your chosen export/share action. Voice recordings are excluded. Ordinary reports exclude private text by default; enabling private-text inclusion can disclose notes and other sensitive descriptions. Full JSON backups include the complete journal, including private text and recordings.
A recipient or destination service can retain, forward, print or screenshot information. This version does not revoke online reports published with an older version or recall copies already made. The privacy practices of email, storage and messaging services you choose also apply.
Optional on-device AI
On-device AI reflections use the available on-device Apple Intelligence model, without automatic cloud fallback. AI Suggestions uses structured summaries to select existing ideas or write reflection questions. Private note, treatment, symptom and food-description text and voice recordings are not automatically included in those summaries.
The app does not save questions and answers as a persistent conversation or include AI-generated reflection questions in exported reports. Temporary results clear when the relevant screen or selection changes. Apple Intelligence availability depends on your device, software, language, region, settings and model readiness. AI can be wrong; see Important limitations.
Cloud-assisted suggestions
Cloud-assisted suggestions are disabled. This version does not send journal summaries to a cloud AI service.
Disabled journal assistant and Siri actions
Ask my journal and its Siri shortcuts are disabled in this version. Saved preferences or previously created shortcuts cannot enable journal reads through those actions. The update does not erase past Siri interactions; manage those through Apple’s Siri settings.
Microphone and notifications
Voice notes are optional. The app requests microphone permission only after you enable Voice notes in Settings and continue through its explanation. Opening the app or a check-in does not request microphone access. Audio is recorded only for a note you choose to create; there is no transcription or background recording feature. Disabling voice recording does not erase saved recordings. You can remove recordings from a check-in and save the change.
Reminders are local notifications. Permission is requested when you choose to enable and save a reminder plan. Notifications do not create check-ins automatically. You can turn reminders off and save, and manage microphone/notification permissions separately in iPhone Settings.
Retention and deletion
New installations keep check-ins until you delete them. Explicitly saved history periods remain selected; choose unlimited or 7–365 days in Settings. Today explains the choice and shows upcoming expiry within 7 days. Older check-ins and recordings remain until you review and confirm removal, including after restore or sync. Increasing the period cannot recover deleted entries. Confirmed deletions propagate through private sync. Life events remain until explicitly deleted. Exported files, device backups and previously published online reports are separate. Uninstalling removes local data; export a backup first if you want to keep it. Settings → Delete all journal data removes check-ins and life events.
Optional what-helped feedback and life-event titles/details are private journal data. Full backups and optional private iCloud sync include them; AI and shared reports exclude them. Optional app lock uses system Face ID, Touch ID or device passcode; the app does not collect biometric data. The app switcher conceals journal screens. Exported copies are not protected by this app lock.
With private sync enabled, deletion markers synchronize to prevent older copies from returning. Completion requires successful sync; an offline device or disabled sync can leave cloud copies unchanged. Disabling sync alone does not delete cloud data. The app retains deletion identifiers to support merging. Manage iCloud storage and device backups through Apple's controls where available. Previously published online reports from older versions are not automatically deleted by this update. Exports and copies held by recipients must be managed separately.
The developer cannot delete files on your device, copies held by your recipients or data controlled by your Apple account on your behalf. Contact support for help identifying the appropriate controls. If you voluntarily send information to support, you may request deletion of that correspondence; any applicable legal retention obligations may limit deletion.
App Store distribution
Mood Tracker is free to download, with no in-app purchases, subscriptions or advertising. The app does not request, receive or store your payment-card or bank details. Apple’s privacy practices apply to your use of the App Store.
Support and diagnostics
The app’s support link opens your mail application and does not automatically attach journal data or diagnostic logs. Emailing support supplies your email address, message and any attachments to the support mailbox and its email provider. This information is used to respond to your request and investigate reported problems. Correspondence may remain in that mailbox after the issue is resolved; request deletion if desired. Do not send your journal, recordings, passwords or Apple account credentials. Redact screenshots and use fictional examples when possible.
Apple may make crash reports, device/app diagnostics and feedback available through TestFlight or device analytics-sharing settings. These may include technical details about the app, device and failure. The app does not add a separate third-party crash-reporting service. Reports and diagnostics are used to investigate reliability problems.
These public documentation pages
GitHub hosts these pages. There are no added analytics scripts, advertising, contact forms or embedded trackers. GitHub may log technical request information, including IP addresses, for its hosting/security purposes. See the GitHub privacy statement. Following a link or emailing support uses the selected service's privacy practices.
Do not post journal entries, recordings or other private information in public repository issues or comments. These pages are documentation; they do not upload or display your journal.
